The Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) is a non-profit academic research body established in 1989 by the Greek Ministry of Education. It was created to carry out research and development activity in the area of telecommunications systems and techniques, computer systems, and their applications in a variety of areas. The personnel of ICCS consist of academic staff 80 University Professors, 20 senior researchers and more than 500 other researchers including. Ph.D. students across 20 research labs. ICCS is active in European research and has served as the project manager of many EU projects across various programs (e.g. EC, ISIS, RACE II, ESPRIT, IES, ACTS, INFOSEC, BRITE-EURAM, STRIDE, MIP-Informatics, Telematic Applications, IST, GROWTH, QoL, FP6 etc). ICCS is certified to conform to ISO 9001 quality management system standard.
The I-SENSE group consists of 17 researchers of various ranks and has extensive expertise working on European Commission research projects. Within ICCS, the I-SENSE Research Group (http://i-sense.iccs.gr) is very active in areas dealing with Intelligent Transportation Systems, embedded systems and sensor networks, emergency communications, alerting systems, communication protocols and gateway design and implementation. The I-SENSE group has participated in more than 35 projects to date serving either as the Project Coordinator or Technical Manager.
Role in the project
ICCS will lead Work Package (WP) 2 and will be responsible for the personalised device and the indoor localisation service. ICCS will also contribute to the sensor definition requirements in WP1, as well as will contribute within WP4 with regard to the interface to the different sensors. ICCS will have a major role also in integration of the overall systems and final testing (WP6 and 7). ICCS will also assist in dissemination and security related management (WP8 and 9).
